Welcome to Australian National University
The academic culture at ANU is defined by its unique national mandate, research intensity, and deep ties to government and policy.
- The National Hub: As the only university created by the Australian federal parliament, ANU was specifically built to be a research powerhouse that advances the nation. Because it is located in Canberra (the capital city), it is the undisputed academic center for Public Policy, International Relations, Political Science, and Law.
- Research-Intensive: The academic environment is incredibly rigorous and heavily research-driven. Undergraduate students are frequently taught by leading global researchers, policy-makers, and even Nobel Laureates.
- The Campus Vibe: The main Acton campus is massive, green, and heavily wooded, sitting right next to the city center and Lake Burley Griffin. Because Canberra is a quieter, purpose-built capital, the student lifestyle is highly residential and tight-knit, with a massive percentage of students living in on-campus residential colleges.

📅 Registration Info
Applying to ANU is straightforward for international students, but they must adhere to strict intake timelines.
- The Application Portal: International students can apply directly through the ANU Official Online Application Portal or via an authorized overseas education agent in Malaysia.
- The Semester System (Intakes): The academic calendar is split into two main intakes.
- Semester 1: Starts in February (This is the main intake for most programs).
- Semester 2: Starts in July.
- No Standardized Admissions Tests: For the vast majority of standard undergraduate degrees, you do not need to take general academic tests like the SAT or ACT, and there are no personal essays or interviews. Decisions are based purely on your final high school academic transcripts.
- English Language Proficiency: If an applicant did not take an approved English subject in high school, they must submit proof of English proficiency. The standard requirement is an IELTS Academic overall score of 6.5 (with no single band below 6.0), or a TOEFL iBT overall score of 80.
💡 Test
For international students completing standard high school curriculums, the admission process relies strictly on final academic grades.
- No General Admissions Tests: Students applying for standard undergraduate degrees (such as Commerce, Engineering, Arts, or Science) do not need to take general academic admissions tests, write personal essays, or attend interviews.
- No Undergraduate Medical Tests: ANU’s flagship medical degree (the Doctor of Medicine and Surgery) is strictly a postgraduate program. Therefore, high school leavers do not take clinical aptitude tests like the ISAT or UCAT. They simply apply for a standard undergraduate degree (like the Bachelor of Health Science) using their high school grades first.
- Portfolios & Auditions: Only required for creative programs. Students applying to the School of Art & Design or the School of Music will need to submit a digital portfolio or perform a live audition.

"An amazing university with rich history and excellent facilities for education majors. The lecturers are very supportive, and the campus environment in Tanjong Malim is extremely peaceful and conducive for studying."
"Great place to study. The residential colleges are comfortable and the new campus has great modern tech. The only downside is that the town is quite small, so entertainment options are a bit limited, but it forces you to focus!"
