Applying to Monash is incredibly straightforward for international students, allowing you to bypass centralized admissions systems entirely.
- The Application Portal: International students can apply directly through the Monash University Online Application Portal or via an authorized overseas education agent. This single portal allows you to select whether you want to study at the Melbourne campus or the Malaysia campus.
- The Semester System (Intakes): The academic calendar is split into two main intakes.
- Semester 1: Starts in February (Applications generally close in December).
- Semester 2: Starts in July (Applications generally close in May).
- No Standardized Admissions Tests: For the vast majority of standard undergraduate degrees, you do not need to take general academic tests like the SAT or ACT, and there are no personal essays or interviews.
- Medicine (The Exception): International students applying for the Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (MD) must sit for the ISAT (International Student Admissions Test) or the UCAT ANZ and pass a rigorous formal Multiple Mini-Interview (MMI).
English Language Proficiency: If an applicant did not take an approved English subject in high school, they must submit proof of English proficiency. The standard requirement is an IELTS Academic overall score of 6.5 (with no single band below 6.0), or a TOEFL iBT overall score of 79.

For the vast majority of international applicants, the admission process relies strictly on final high school grades.
- No General Admissions Tests: Students applying for standard undergraduate degrees (such as Commerce, Engineering, Computer Science, or Arts) do not need to take general academic admissions tests or write personal essays.
- Medicine (ISAT Requirement): This is the major exception. International students applying for the Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (MD) must sit for the ISAT (International Student Admissions Test). If shortlisted, they must also pass a Multiple Mini-Interview (MMI).
- Education / Teaching: Applicants for Education degrees are typically required to complete a non-academic online situational judgement test (often called the Casper test) to assess their personal attributes for teaching.
Art, Design & Architecture: Creative degrees may require the submission of a digital portfolio or the completion of a pre-selection activity.
