Welcome to The University of Edinburgh
The academic culture here is defined by its deep historical roots and a highly flexible, broad approach to learning.
- The 4-Year Scottish Degree Structure: This is the most crucial difference for your readers to understand. Undergraduate degrees here take 4 years to complete.
- Unmatched Flexibility: During the first and second years, students study their primary major but are also actively encouraged to take ""outside subjects"" from entirely different departments. A student studying Physics can easily take classes in Philosophy or History for their first two years before strictly specializing in their final two ""Honours"" years.
- The Historic Campus: The university is woven directly into the heart of Edinburgh, Scotland's capital. The campus features stunning, ancient architecture mixed with modern research facilities. It is a very vibrant, culturally rich, and incredibly walkable student city.

💡 Test
For the vast majority of applicants, the admission process is completely based on high school grades and a strong personal statement.
- No General Admissions Tests: Students applying for standard undergraduate degrees (such as Engineering, Arts, Sciences, or Business) do not need to take general admissions tests or attend interviews.
- Medicine & Veterinary Medicine: This is the major exception. Applicants for these highly clinical degrees must sit for the UCAT (University Clinical Aptitude Test) the year before they apply. If shortlisted, they must also attend multiple mini-interviews (MMIs).
- Nursing & Teacher Education: Shortlisted applicants for these specific pathways will be invited to an interview.
- Art & Design: Degrees in Fine Art or Design require students to submit a digital portfolio for assessment.

"An amazing university with rich history and excellent facilities for education majors. The lecturers are very supportive, and the campus environment in Tanjong Malim is extremely peaceful and conducive for studying."
"Great place to study. The residential colleges are comfortable and the new campus has great modern tech. The only downside is that the town is quite small, so entertainment options are a bit limited, but it forces you to focus!"
