Welcome to The University of Queensland
The academic culture at UQ is defined by its massive research output, breathtaking campus environment, and a strong emphasis on practical, industry-aligned learning.
- The Campus Lifestyle: The main St Lucia campus is widely considered one of the most beautiful in the world, situated on a massive bend of the Brisbane River and characterized by its iconic sandstone buildings and vast green spaces. The lifestyle here perfectly balances intense academic rigor with a relaxed, outdoorsy, subtropical vibe.
- Research and Innovation: The university is a heavyweight in global research. It is particularly legendary for its programs in Environmental Sciences, Agriculture (housed at the specialized Gatton campus), Sports Science, Engineering, and Medical Sciences.
- The ""Flipped"" and Active Learning Model: UQ heavily promotes active learning. Rather than just passively listening in massive lecture halls, students are expected to engage in hands-on workshops, state-of-the-art laboratory sessions, and collaborative problem-solving from their very first semester.

📅 Registration Info
Applying to UQ is highly streamlined for international students, with very clear official pathways and intake dates.
- The Application Portal: International students can apply directly through the UQ Online Application Portal or via an authorized overseas education agent in Malaysia.
- The Semester System (Intakes & Deadlines): The academic calendar is split into two main intakes.
- Semester 1: Starts in February (Applications typically close on November 30 of the preceding year).
- Semester 2: Starts in July (Applications typically close on May 31).
- No Standardized Admissions Tests: For the vast majority of standard undergraduate degrees, you do not need to take general academic tests like the SAT or ACT, and there are no personal essays or interviews. Decisions are based purely on your final high school academic transcripts.
- Medicine & Dentistry (The Exception): International students applying for highly clinical degrees (like the Doctor of Medicine provisional entry or Dental Science) must sit for the UCAT ANZ (University Clinical Aptitude Test) and pass a rigorous formal interview.
- English Language Proficiency: If an applicant did not take an approved English subject in high school, they must submit proof of English proficiency. The standard requirement is an IELTS Academic overall score of 6.5 (with no single band below 6.0), or a TOEFL iBT overall score of 87.
💡 Test
For standard undergraduate degrees, the application process at UQ relies entirely on final high school grades rather than extra testing.
- No General Admissions Tests: Students applying for standard degrees (like Commerce, Engineering, Arts, or Science) do not need to take standardized academic tests, write personal essays, or attend interviews. Your high school grades are the primary deciding factor.
- Medicine & Dentistry: This is the major exception. International high school leavers applying for the highly competitive provisional entry to Medicine or Dental Science must take the UCAT ANZ (University Clinical Aptitude Test) and participate in a Multiple Mini-Interview (MMI).
- Veterinary Science: Applicants for the Bachelor of Veterinary Science must complete a situational judgment test called the Casper test to assess their non-academic attributes and personal/professional characteristics.
- Music: Degrees like the Bachelor of Music (Honours) require a live or recorded performance audition.

"An amazing university with rich history and excellent facilities for education majors. The lecturers are very supportive, and the campus environment in Tanjong Malim is extremely peaceful and conducive for studying."
"Great place to study. The residential colleges are comfortable and the new campus has great modern tech. The only downside is that the town is quite small, so entertainment options are a bit limited, but it forces you to focus!"
