About Politeknik Ungku Omar

Ungku Omar Polytechnic located on Jalan Musa Mahadi (formerly known as Jalan Diary), Ipoh, Perak, was established in 1969. The polytechnic was established by the Ministry of Education Malaysia with the help of UNESCO. An allocation of RM24.5 million came from the UN Development Program (UNDP).

This polytechnic takes on the name of the late Dato 'Professor Ungku Omar Ahmad in remembering his service and contribution to the nation and nation especially in the field of medical research.

The emphasis and field of polytechnic education is science and technology. The Ungku Omar Polytechnic was established by the Ministry of Education Malaysia with the help of UNESCO and aims to train semi-professional workforce and subordinate management to meet national development needs. UNESCO has been tasked with planning and implementing PUO on a 22.6-acre site on Dairy Road, Ipoh. Polytechnic began operating at the Day Training Center in Ipoh with 300 students. Its teaching staff at the time consisted of 28 local lecturers and assisted by 14 volunteers from Canada, USA, Germany and Japan.
