About Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah
Sultan Azlan Shah University (USAS) is a private university in Malaysia. Situated in Kuala Kangsar, Perak, it was previously known as Sultan Azlan Shah Islamic University College (KUISAS).
The idea of setting up KUISAS (formerly Darul Ridzuan Islamic College, KISDAR) was mooted by the late Sultan Azlan Shah in 1986. The idea was realised with the opening of a temporary campus at Jalan Datuk Seri Shaari off Jalan Raja DiHilir, Ipoh in 1999. KISDAR was established by Perak State Islamic and Malay Affairs Council by virtue of KISDAR Enactment 2000. The Enactment was tabled and passed by the Perak State Legislative Assembly which later received the royal assent on 6 March 2002.
On 8 February 2006 the state government approved the construction of a permanent campus for KISDAR at Chandan Putri on a piece of land donated by the then Acting Sultan of Perak Raja Dr. Nazrin Shah. The campus which cost almost RM 66 million, was completed in 2008.
On 16 July 2009, Sultan Azlan Shah officiated the opening of the KISDAR campus at Bukit Chandan which is, since 2013, known as KUISAS.
On 10 June 2016, Prime Minister Najib Razak announced the status of university to KUISAS and, hence, renamed KUISAS as USAS. Minister of Higher Education Idris Jusoh presented the Instrument of Establishment to USAS on 14 June.
