The National Art Academy (ASK) Academy established in 1994 under the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Tourism of Malaysia is now known as the National Arts and Culture Academy (ASWARA) Academy effective August 1, 2006 through the National Academy of Arts and Culture Act 2006 (National Act 653)

ASWARA is the only institution of higher learning supported by the Government of Malaysia under the Ministry of Unity, Culture, Arts and Heritage Malaysia. It is a tertiary institution providing educational, research and publishing space as well as professional advisory services in the field of cultural and heritage arts aimed at producing talented artists and talented employees in its field while enhancing the continuity of the country's artistic heritage. In principle ASWARA focuses on arts education to produce knowledgeable and professional performers to fill the country's art industry.

ASWARA is responsible for producing graduates who are capable of being scholars, promoters, nurturers, performers and practitioners of cultural and heritage arts at the highest levels of certificates, diplomas, degrees and degrees in the fields of research and cultural enrichment, conservation and heritage administration of all kinds.
