About Institut Pendidikan Guru (Kampus Tuanku Bainun)

The IPG Campus Tuanku Bainun, Mengkuang, Bukit Mertajam was completed in early 1993. The name of the Teacher Education Institute (IPG) has been used to rename the College in line with the Government's policy of elevating the teaching of colleges in this country to the Institute from April 2006. Area The campus is 66.38 acres and the construction cost is RM 38 million. The campus of the institute is one of the most modern and equipped with many facilities for staff and trainees.

The inauguration ceremony of the institute was officiated by His Highness the King of His Majesty Agong Tuanku Bainun on April 18, 1994. The inauguration of the institute was a historic day and was attended by such figures as the Honorable Governor of Penang, YAB Chief Minister of Penang, YB Minister Education, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Education Malaysia and Head of the College Colleges from all over Malaysia at the time.

Among the amenities of this campus include an assembly hall of up to 1,000 people, a sports pavilion containing a football field and 400-meter running track, gym, open-air court, 5 dormitories, suraus, quarters and staff houses, cafeterias, canteen, Resource Center, preschool building, 2 college halls, 3 academic blocks and workshops.

The first recruitment of 376 trainee teachers reported on December 1, 1992. The specialties offered for the first intake were Malay Studies, English Studies, Chinese Studies, Math Studies and Music Studies. This group is the first to receive their school certificate and the eldest son and pioneer of the institute. The second recruitment of 459 people in 14 units enrolled at the college in July 1993.

The courses offered are Malay Studies, English Studies, Chinese Studies, Mathematics Studies, Music Studies and new courses namely Islamic Religious Studies and Tamil Studies. In December 1993, 229 new trainee teachers reported. For this session another new course was introduced at the institute of study of Science. The total number of trainees registered during the institute was opened at 1063, while the teaching force was 73. In addition, the support staff is 38.

A total of 540 new trainee teachers for the 1994/1997 session in 18 units were enrolled in July 1994. Beginning this session the first group of trainees for the Advanced Life Skills (PSM- (KMT)) Course, Home Economics (KH- (ERT)) and Agricultural Life Skills (KH- (P)) have begun their studies. In 1996 the KPA course was completed and the first intake of the Malaysian Diploma Course was completed
