About Institut Pendidikan Guru - Kampus Pulau Pinang
The Penang Campus Teacher Education Institute is located in Coombe Hill, Gelugor, Penang. The institute was established in 1954 in Kota Bharu, Kelantan and moved the same year to Penang. It was originally known as the Penang Teachers' Training College and was later named the Malayan Teacher Training College (MTTC).
On January 1, 1957, the MTTC was transferred to the Malayan Teachers' College (MTC). The MTC was officially opened on May 14, 1959 by Dato 'Abdul Razak, Acting Prime Minister. On May 11, 2006, the institute along with other teaching institutes across the country was upgraded to a teacher education institute and renamed the Federal Teachers Institute. Starting in 2009, the institute became known as the Penang Campus Teacher Education Institute. The IPG works to ensure that teacher training can ensure that the professional level of professionalism set by SGM is achieved.
The Penang campus of IPG is responsible for establishing 4 areas related to teacher training namely Knowledge, Character, Research and Publication. Each field contains some fillings to be implemented based on standards and objectives and goals that will lead to religious-based excellence and pure values.
The main areas of specialization of the Institute are Science and Mathematics. However, there are also other areas of specialization in this institute. Among the areas of English, Malay, Chinese, Morality, Music, Religion, Education Rehabilitation and Social Studies
