Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (Diploma)
<p>Paramedics are often the first on hand, at the time of patients’ greatest needs, to administer emergency care and even help save their lives. As the first respondents to any emergency situation, paramedics manage the emergency care of sick or injured persons in the out-of-hospital setting.</p>
<p>If you are compassionate and caring and able to react well under stressful and dynamic conditions, then a career as a Paramedic will be hugely rewarding.</p>
<p>You will be trained in clinical decision making, patient assessment, life-threatening cardiac rhythm interpretation, defibrillation, drug therapy, and airway management. You will possess knowledge, skills and attitudes consistent with international standards of the profession.</p>
<p>As a paramedic, you are an essential component of the continuum care and serve as a link to health resources. The emerging roles and responsibilities of the paramedic include public education, health promotion and participation in injury and illness prevention programs. <p>MAHSA University’s Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology is a highly-specialised 3-year programme which will cater to students who have completed SPM or its equivalent, and are interested in a career as a medical laboratory technologist.</p>
<p>Students will learn how to collect samples and perform tests to analyze body fluids, tissue, and other substances.</p>
<p>They will learn diverse medical subjects such as clinical chemistry, clinical biology, haematology, hemopathology, histotechnology, immunology, specimen collection and handling, transfusion science, and other such specialised subjects. They will also be trained to think logically and to be very meticulous and committed to detail, adhering always to stringent professional standards, and to be adept at critical thinking.</p>
<p>This Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology will ensure students are ready for a career in hospitals and medical centres, educational institutions, and in clinics and laboratories both in the government and private sectors.</p>
<p>MAHSA's Diploma in Medical Imaging is a highly technical and specialized 3-year programme for students who have completed SPM or its equivalent.</p>
<p>Medical Imaging or Radiography is the science of taking images of parts of the internal body to diagnose diseases and ailments, and includes X-rays, ultrasounds, CT Scans and MRI's. This programme is perfect for individuals who will enjoy working with scientific precision equipment and have a keen interest in diagnostic medicine.</p>
<p>Students will learn a broad range of biophysical and health sciences, and will thus acquire theoretical and practical knowledge of radio imaging equipment and procedures. This exciting programme will cover a diverse range of subjects, including basic anatomy, physiology, the fundamentals of medical imaging technology, basic computers, basic microbiology and pathology, basic biochemistry, medical and radiation physics, basics of pharmacology, radiographic photography, and radiographic techniques.</p>
<p>At the end of the programme, the student will be equipped with the expert knowledge and skills required to perform diagnostic tests through the use of radiation, a highly sought-after qualification in any good hospital and medical centre.</p>
Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (Degree)
<p>MAHSA University’s Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences (Hons) is a 4-year programme tailored for individuals who are looking for a career in biomedical science in the areas of research and development, diagnostics, or production.</p>
<p>During the programme, students will explore subjects such as biology, chemistry, physiology, pharmacology, statistics, genetics, immunology, molecular and cellular biology, pathology, histology, haematology, epidemiology, toxicology, and neuroscience.</p>
<p>Graduates of MAHSA University’s Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences (Hons) can look forward to career opportunities such as environmental scientists, health specialists, health educators, pathologists, laboratory technicians, pharmacologists, microbiologists and numerous other important roles in the biomedical sphere.</p>

<p>MAHSA’s MBBS programme is a 5-year programme. It is divided into 2 phases, phase 1 comprises years 1 and 2 and phase 2 years 3 to 5.</p>
<p>The Phase 1 programme is largely conducted in the MAHSA University campus with some exposure to clinical medicine at Hospital Tanjung Karang.</p>
<p>The Phase 2 programme is the clinical phase and is almost entirely hospital and clinic based. The hospitals used are Hospital Sungai Buloh, Hospital Kuala Lumpur and Hospital Tanjung Karang. Students are also exposed to clinical training at Klinik Kesihatan AU2, Rawang Perdana, Taman Ehsan and Taman Medan. This ensures an eclectic mix of clinical training in major referral centers, community hospitals and primary care clinics.</p>
<p>The completion of this 5 year programme leads to a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree.</p>

<p><u>Phase 1 – Preclinical</u></p>
<p>Phase 1 spans 2 years. This is the preclinical phase of the programme and basic medical sciences are taught in organ-system blocks. There is also exposure to community medicine during this phase. Non-block modules such as Personal and Professional Development (PPD) and Early Clinical Exposure run across the two years to emphasise the relationship between basic medical sciences and clinical practice. There are two major examinations during Phase 1. The first is at the end of year 1 and the second at the end of year 2.</p>

<p><u>Phase 2 – Clinical Program</u></p>
<p>Upon completion of Phase 1, the student will proceed to Phase 2 of the program which is the clinical phase. This phase covers year 3, 4 and 5. It is conducted at hospitals and health clinics designated as teaching centres for the faculty. The student will undergo rotational postings of 2 to 8 weeks in the disciplines outlined in the programme structure. Students have to pass the Final Professional Examination at the end of year 5 to graduate.</p>
Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (Master)
<p>MAHSA University’s Master of Medical Sciences is designed primarily for students who can then expect to continue onto doctoral studies (Ph.D., M.D., or the equivalent). Graduates will be able to apply the knowledge gained to real life situations, develop social skills, critical thinking, emphasizing on an integrative and technological understanding of biological systems at all levels and prepares them for a career in research and teaching in the field of Medical and Health sciences.</p>
<p>Graduates become competent in management of ideas, communication, Leadership and be able to evaluate complex issues, plan, implement and publish findings. The programme initiates them into methods of intense study and research in some selected areas of medical sciences.</p>
<p>This curriculum is designed to suit current trends and needs. This is a highly sought-after curriculum combining theoretical learning, e-learning and Practical sessions in laboratories and hospitals. It is accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency and Ministry of Higher Education.</p>

Dentistry (Diploma)
<p>MAHSA University's Diploma in Dental Technology is a niche programme designed for students who have completed SPM or its equivalent, and are interested in a future as dental technologists working in dental laboratories or clinics.</p>
<p>Dental Technologists construct/produce prostheses for the treatment of damaged or maligned teeth, replacement of missing teeth and protection of teeth.</p>
<p>During the course of the programme, students will learn the complex skills in designing, constructing, and repairing dental prostheses and appliances such as bridges, crowns, dentures, orthodontic appliances, mouthguards and other dental fixtures.</p>
<p>Students will also be taught first-aid, infection control procedures, safety and health standards store management and entrepreneurial skills.</p>
<p>At the end of the programme, students graduating as Dental Technologists from MAHSA will be up-to-date in professional knowledge, competent in their skills, ethical and possess good moral values.</p>
Dentistry (Degree)
<p>MAHSA University’s Doctor of Dental Surgery is a comprehensive dental surgery programme that aims to produce graduates with advanced, evidenced-based clinical training who will possess the expertise to provide excellent professional service in dentistry.</p>
<p>The modules are an integration of biomedical, clinical and behavioral sciences, with particular emphasis on human anatomy, craniofacial biology, physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, pathology, pharmacology, human organ systems, associated disease processes, emergency procedures, infection control, oral health diseases, biomaterials, operative dentistry, prosthodontics, oral surgery, public health and community dentistry besides various other areas of dentistry.</p>
<p>At the end of their programme, students will have procured for themselves the ability to carry out various dental tasks, from basic dental procedures such as tooth extraction and repair of oral imperfections, to complex and complicated procedures such as root canal and prosthodontic treatment. They will have the ability to diagnose, treat and prevent dental diseases besides accepting professional responsibility for effective and safe care of patient. The dental graduates will be well prepared to serve the community and fill distinguished positions at the helm of the dental profession in both the public and private sectors including institutions within the country and beyond.</p>
Dentistry (Master)
<p>The Master of Orofacial Sciences Programme bridges the Doctor of Dental Surgery and the three-year doctorate (DResDent).This one-year programme will be a pre-requisite to the first planned doctoral programme, Doctor of Restorative Dentistry (DResDent). This combination of one year Master and three years Doctoral programme will be among the qualifications required to enable graduates to be registered as dental specialists under the new Malaysian Dental Act 2018 which was recently passed by Cabinet.</p>
<p>This Master programme provides opportunities for local private practitioners or potential dental lecturers to specialised in an area of interest to them. The common core courses make up 50% of the programme and includes Applied Medical and Dental Sciences, Research Methodology and Biostatistics, Research Project and General Dentistry. The Restorative Dentistry module shall comprise of at least 50% of the programme.</p>
<p>The research project may be based on the simple collation of clinical data towards a clinical audit outcome, preliminary field studies or introductory laboratory studies. The research output can be in the form of mini-dissertations or scientific reports.</p>
Health and Sports Sciences (Diploma)
<p>MAHSA University’s Diploma in Environmental Health is a 3-year comprehensive programme for students who have completed their SPM or its equivalent. This course was tailored for individuals who have an interest in health and the environmental conditions that necessarily dictate it. Students will learn about the importance of preventing the transmission of infectious diseases brought about by physical, biological, cultural and socio-environmental agents. They will also discuss the necessity of good sanitation, preventive measures and remedial action.</p>
<p>MAHSA's Diploma in Environmental Health is an exciting programme that observes and studies human activity affecting the quality of human life. Students learn to make scientific observations based on empirical evidence and logical deductions, and to formulate their own answers and solutions to current environmental problems. Core topics include health issues; the body’s reaction to environmental pollutants; physical, chemical and biological agents of environmental contamination; the ways in which pollutants are released on the environment in solid, liquid and gaseous forms; types of hazardous wastes; susceptible populations; risk analysis and the scientific bases for decision-making, and emerging global environmental health issues.</p>
<p>At the end of the course, students will be equipped with a fundamental knowledge of the relevant sciences and their auxiliary services such as legal barriers and obligations, codes of practice and ethics, and relevant communication skills.</p>
<p>MAHSA University’s Diploma in Physiotherapy is a 3-year programme for students who have emerged successfully from SPM or its equivalent, and are committed to a future as physiotherapists intent on alleviating physical disabilities and improving the physical human condition.</p>
<p>Students learn to manage and avert the problems that affect the physical functioning of the human body, and to maximize the physical body's movement and agility, with the primary objective of enabling patients to achieve optimal and maximum independence in movement and function. Students learn proven techniques that help manage disorders of the human body for people of all ages.</p>
<p>Students also learn how to provide treatment and care while rehabilitating patients with physical and psychological deficiencies. They will also study subjects such as general anatomy, general physiology, psychology, exercise therapy, pathology, pharmacology, electrotherapy, orthopaedics, biomechanics, and also the communication skills that will enable them to adequately and effectively interact with and counsel their patients.</p>
Health and Sports Sciences (Degree)
<p>MAHSA University offers Bachelor of Science Biotechnology (Hons) which is a 3-year programme for the aspirants willing for a great career in Biotechnology in the areas of industry, medicine and environmental research.</p>

<p>MAHSA University’s Bachelor of Environmental Health and Safety (Hons) is a 4-year undergraduate degree programme that prepares students for a career in the management of health and safety in the environment, which encompasses a variety of situations and substances, including pollution, temperature changes and waste disposal. In an age of global climatic upheaval, the ability to improve the health and safety of the community in particular and the world in general has become a highly desired qualification.</p>
<p>Students will study a diverse range of exciting subjects such as the environment and how it influences human health and the spread of disease; the use of safety equipment in environmental monitoring; industrial, commercial and housing development; water supply and safety; food production and safety; occupational health and safety; air, water, soil, radiation and noise pollution; disease control; health surveillance and research; health improvement and community development; waste management; pest control; accident and disaster control; transport safety; risk management; adherence to environmental laws and regulations; and public relations.</p>
<p>Upon completion of this programme, students will be qualified to identify, assess, reduce and eliminate risk in various potentially hazardous situations and environments; effectively reduce, prevent and eliminate the risk of accidents and injuries at home, in the workplace and beyond; and recommend ways that the general public can be protected from potentially hazardous situations.</p>
<p>MAHSA University’s Bachelor of Environmental Health and Safety (Hons) degree will enable its graduates to make the world a safer place.</p>
<p>MAHSA University’s Bachelor of Medical Imaging (Hons) is a 4-year undergraduate degree programme that grooms qualified radiographers in the expert use of radiography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT scan) and ultrasound for the purpose of diagnosing diseases and injuries. This degree in medical imaging (also called Medical Diagnostic Radiography) will qualify graduates as radiographers who are highly respected and in great demand in hospitals and medical centres throughout the world.</p>
<p>During the course of the programme, students will learn the diverse and complex subjects of human anatomy and physiology, general pathology, radiation physics, medical radiations, x-ray techniques, clinical radiography, regional and sectional biography for medical imaging, digital vascular imaging, mammography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasound, systematic imaging pathology, medical radiation science, radiation safety and biology, radiation safety standards and procedures, radiographic practice, image interpretation, health and statistics, and professional practice.</p>
<p>At the close of this programme, students will be able to perform multifarious expert activities such as positioning patients correctly and effectively for ideal imaging results; utilising radiographic exposure factors to optimize image quality and minimize patient dosage and exposure to radiation; and effectively using various methods of medical imaging to take images of parts of patients’ anatomies to detect injuries and possible diseases. They will also be able to use nuclear medicine to assist patients in the eradication of cancerous cells in radiation treatments; exercise maximum caution and care in the use of radiation to maximise patient and occupational safety; assess patients’ situations and provide solutions according to changing needs and limitations; adhere to and uphold stringent safety standards in the use of radiation equipment and procedures; and counsel and comfort patients to whom they are attending.</p>
<p>Ultimately, MAHSA’s graduating radiographers will be able to contribute a host of essential services to medical institutions everywhere.</p>
<p>MAHSA University’s Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Hons) is a 4-year undergraduate degree programme that prepares students for a career caring for and rehabilitating patients with neurological, respiratory, musculoskeletal or other debilitating conditions through the use of expert techniques to reduce pain, improve movement and restore muscle control to maximise mobility.</p>
<p>Students will immerse themselves in the study of systematic, regional and functional anatomy; physiology; pharmacology; pathology; the foundations of psychology; the foundations of physiotherapy; physiotherapy rehabilitation science; physiotherapy clinical practice; and health science research. They will also learn the use of physical manipulation of the anatomy to regulate muscles and nerves, the many exercises that can be performed for specific needs, and the uses of electrotherapy, ultrasound, acupuncture and hydrotherapy in their rehabilitative efforts.</p>
<p>When students have completed this programme, they will be qualified to</p>

Health and Sports Sciences (Master)
<p>MAHSA University’s Master of Medical Science (Anatomy) is designed primarily for students who can then expect to continue onto doctoral studies (Ph.D., M.D., or the equivalent).</p>
<p>This specialisation assures training in research techniques and in the preparation of scholarly papers, and it culminates in the preparation and defence of a thesis based on original research. The student's programme of study is an initiation into methods of intense study and research in some selected area of anatomy.</p>
<p>The programme of study includes a comprehensive oral examination of the material presented in the core anatomy courses and a written scholarly project focusing on a contemporary issue falling under one of the various sub-disciplines of anatomy.</p>
<p>The programme also includes the opportunity to learn fundamental laboratory techniques used in anatomical research and the chance to help teach in one or more of the department's graduate or undergraduate courses.</p>
<p>MAHSA’s Master of Science in Public Health provides the necessary knowledge and competencies to protect, improve and maintain the health of individuals and communities and prepares students for gainful employment in diverse health settings both in the public and private health sectors.</p>
<p>During the 1-&-½-year programme consisting of three long semesters and a short one, students will be trained in the fields of epidemiology, prevention and control of communicable and non-communicable diseases, health systems management, biostatistics, research methodology, health promotion, occupational health, environmental health, health-risk assessment, population health, public health policy and leadership. The training is conducted through didactic lectures, tutorials, case studies, seminars, workshops, field visits and presentations by an expert team of academics with many years of real-world public health experience both locally and internationally. Our primary goal is for graduates to emerge as advanced critical thinkers and analysts, ready and able to challenge and push boundaries in a wide range of public health contexts.</p>
<p>Graduates of MAHSA University’s Master of Science in Public Health will have acquired the various proficiencies and aptitudes to function effectively and efficiently in a diversity of environments as leaders in public health. They will have the capacity to diagnose community health problems, manage and reduce health disparities and implement solutions to enhance human health. They will also be equipped with advanced research capacities to do independent research to inform their evidence-based public health practices.</p>
<p>The Master of Physiotherapy in MAHSA University is offered for full time (1 year) and part time (2 years) study. Candidates can choose to specialise in either Musculoskeletal or Neurology. This cutting- edge programme is brought to physiotherapists who seek to advance their careers and are committed to serve the community as evidenced –based practitioners with strong clinical reasoning to make accurate clinical decision for complex problems in musculoskeletal and neurology.</p>
<p>To go from being an entry level therapist to a specialist, it will be necessary to qualify in post-graduate degree with course work in the respective disciplines. It opens the gate for pursuing further research and numerous career growth opportunities as specialists, academicians, policy makers or clinical managers.</p>
<p>The programme includes a wide range of teaching methods namely higher order problem-solving activities, case studies, practice-based learning, peer support and blended learning using e-Learn. The programme has both course work and research components, with greater emphasis for advanced skills in the respective disciplines. The full time programme is conducted entirely in the university campus except for clinical placements at our panel hospitals. The part-time programme is delivered in blocks where face to face sessions are conducted at the university campus with supported learning through eLearn. All modules are delivered by practising experts, specialists and academics informed by the latest developments in the field.</p>
<p>This programme is uniquely designed such that research-informed teaching becomes the main emphasis geared towards challenging and driving students to become evidence based practitioners. <p>The University has established a cutting edge Physiotherapy research laboratory equipped with <strong>GAIT LAB WITH FORCE PLATFORM, ISOKINETIC MACHINE, REALTIME ULTRASOUND, ELECTROGONIOMETER, EMG</strong> and <strong>BALANCE MASTER</strong>.</p>
<p>On successful completion of the programme, the candidate is awarded the MASTER OF PHYSIOTHERAPY in either one of the disciplines which he /she has registered.</p>
Pharmacy (Diploma)
<p>Diploma in Pharmacy is a 3-year programme in which students will gain a strong foundation in biological, chemical and pharmaceutical sciences in the first year, before proceeding onto more advanced topics and 2 semesters in hospital pharmacy training.</p>
<p>Graduates will be able to gain employment as Pharmacy Assistants in public and private hospitals, health clinics, pharmaceutical laboratories and manufacturing facilities. The graduates may also continue their educational pursuit of a professional degree in pharmacy.</p>
<p>The Diploma in Pharmacy programme received its full MQA accreditation in March 2009.</p>
Pharmacy (Degree)
<p>MAHSA University’s Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons) is a 4-year undergraduate programme for individuals who want to devote themselves to the advancement of health through the dispensation of medicines.</p>
<p>Graduates can then take the professional examinations and be qualified as pharmacists in hospitals and medical centres, or choose to go into production, marketing and distribution, research and development, or education.</p>

Pharmacy (Master)

<p>MAHSA’s DEE programme is a 2.5-year programme that consists of 7 semesters. This programme is largely conducted in the MAHSA University campus with some exposure to laboratory work. The programme promotes student-centred learning, problem based learning, and hands-on training which will help the students develop critical thinking and problem solving skills.</p>
<p>Upon completion of Year 1 and Year 2, the student will proceed to the industrial training / internship in their Year 2 Semester 3. The placement of students in engineering industries for a period of 12 weeks is because to undergo industrial training / internship and get exposure on the real working environment. The students will be supervised by a lecturer who will liaise with the industries. At the end of the training the students are required to submit a report while the industries are required to evaluate and report on the students’ job performance. Students are exposed to real work environment experience gain knowledge in writing report in technical works/projects. This programme not only prepares students with advanced theoretical and practical skills but also exposes them to plan and manage a project strategically. Students apply knowledge they learned from taking courses to study, analyse and address real life industry requirements. <p>The completion of this 2.5 year programme leads to a Bachelor of Electrical & Electronics engineering degree. This programme will be accredited by the MQA/EAC.</p>
